Chapter 396

Zoe would move on and forget about him eventually!

Clenching his fists, he tried to sit up again, but he simply couldn’t muster any strength. All he could do was lie on the bed.

Mason breathed heavily as tears began to well up in his eyes.

I’m sorry, Zoe. Forgive me!

Zoe didn’t go back to the Kirk Manor to pack her stuff. She was occupied with taking care of Yanni. From time to time, she had to take her little girl to the hospital for routine checkups too.

In fact, she passed by Mason’s ward regularly. What she didn’t know was that he was lying on the bed quietly, unable to move nor take care of himself, while she wallowed in resentment.

Time flew by.

Yanni was getting better gradually, but she missed her father a lot. She asked about him all the time. “Why don’t I see Dad anymore?”

So, Zoe would make the phone calls for her daughter, but she’d step away each time just so she wouldn’t have to hear his voice. That’d make it slightly more bearable. She intended to forget their time together. In fact, she wanted to forget about ever falling in love with him altogether.

Time passed and she gradually got used to life without him. The past. few months seemed like a distant dream now.

Perhaps it was time they returned to Silvercrest!

It was the middle of the night. Mia had just put Yanni to sleep.

Coming out of the bedroom, she saw Zoe spacing out underneath the fluorescent light. Obviously, something was bothering her.

She poured a glass of water, sat next to her, and asked gently,” What’s your heart saying to you? If you really can’t forget about him, then maybe we could…”

Zoe cut her off and said softly, “I’m perfectly fine with putting him. behind me! We’ll take Yanni for another checkup this week. If everything turns out okay, we’re moving back to Silvercrest.”

Mia was somewhat disheartened.

There was a time when everything seemed to be working out between Zoe and Mason. She honestly thought they’d reconcile and go back to the way things were. Alas, it seemed fate made another joke at their expense again.

With that said, she was relieved to see Zoe moving on from it!

In the end, she didn’t say anything further.

Zoe sat there until the dead of night. Then, she rose and walked back to her bedroom. Yanni was sound asleep. Although her little girl was apart from her father, it didn’t seem to have any adverse effect. Yanni had been doing quite well. She didn’t miss out on any of her meals.

Brushing her fingers across her little girl’s cheeks, she fell into deep thought. Perhaps she had been hoping against hope for the past month. She kept waiting for a miracle.

She kept the feeble hope that Mason would just give her a call out of nowhere and confess to her that he actually hadn’t spent any time with Gabriela. He merely said what he said because he was displeased with her and wanted to rile her up,

However, a month came and gone. She didn’t receive such a call.

Perhaps it was a sign. She should probably leave.

Smiling bitterly, she rose, walked to the living room, and gave Mason a call. It rang for a while before he answered.

She said in a polite and distant tone, “Is it okay if I go to Kirk Manor and pack up my stuff tomorrow?”

Mason remained quiet briefly before responding gently, “Feel free to drop by anytime tomorrow.”

Then, both of them didn’t say anything for a spell.

He broke the silence and asked, “Are you moving back to Silvercrest?”

“Yeah,” she said, “I’m moving back there. Give me a call if you want to hang out with Yanni. It’s alright if you want to visit her at Silvercrest.”

He remained quiet again.

That was when it occurred to Zoe that he might not have wanted to do it. After all, he could get Gabriela pregnant very soon, now that they were back together. They’d want to build their own family too. So, he might not be bothered enough to hang out with Yanni again.

She might’ve borne a grudge against him, but she quickly saw how pointless it was. Mason hired a team of medical experts and cured Yanni of her leukemia. That made them even. She shouldn’t hate him for deciding to settle down with another lady.

Hanging up the phone, she walked to the window and stood there in the darkness. This was the last time she’d reminisce about their past. All of the love and hatred she had once harbored for him would turn to dust the moment she moved back to Silvercrest.

Zoe deliberately went to Kirk Manor at three in the afternoon. Mason probably wouldn’t be there at this hour, she thought.

To her surprise, however, both his black Bentley and Rolls-Royce
