Chapter 397
Was Mason at home?
Zoe’s eyes were fixed on both of his cars while she was getting out of hers. Layla saw her and came over and said passionately, “You’re back, Ms. Zoe!”
Smiling lightly, she said, “I’m no longer the mistress of the house!” Then, she asked, “Is Mason home?”
Layla stuttered at what she said.
Paying her no mind, Zoe strolled right into the manor. She was making her way upstairs when she saw someone in the living room.
She almost couldn’t believe it.
It was Gabriela.
Her face immediately turned pale at the sight.
Gabriela, however, wasn’t the least bit surprised to see her here. Her
tone was serene but authoritative as if she was the mistress of the manor now. “We’ve packed up all of your stuff as well as your daughter’s. You’ll find them in the private lounge. Here, I’ll show you! the way!
“Be careful not to make too much noise. Mason’s been working on a big project for the past few days. He lost sleep over it for several nights on end and he’s catching a nap now.” With that, Gabriela flashed her a tender smile, reminding her so much of a lady in love.
Although Gabriela didn’t try to make her feel bad, but it was exactly what she felt at that moment. It was as if Gabriela had seen through her and knew every humiliating thing about her relationship with Mason. It was all she could do to keep herself in check and maintain
her composure.
“Fine,” Zoe responded with a slightly trembling voice
Gabriela gave her a sidelong glance before strolling upstairs, still carrying herself like the mistress of the manor
She followed her upstairs, her heart sinking deeper into the abyss with each step she took if there were any lingering feelings in her heart, she stamped them out every time her foot fell to the floor. In their places, a sense of humiliation rose
That was right. She was deeply humiliated by this turn of events!
Then, she arrived at the private lounge on the second floor under Gabriela’s guidance. The door to the bedroom was closed halfway. but the lights weren’t turned on in there. So, she couldn’t see what
was going on inside
Two suitcases stood in the private lounge All of her and Yanni’s stuff was packed inside
Gabriela frowned. “Looks kind of heavy.”
With that, she walked over to the door and barked an order to the
servants downstairs. “Ineed some help up here, Layla. Call for two
servants to help Zoe carry her suitcases.”
Layla responded and left to do her bidding
Gabriela came back and flashed her a faint smile “I’m sure it doesn’t
bother you! I’m talking about me and Mason, of course. The fact was, he waited for your return for a long time, but men will be men.
“They simply couldn’t be left blue-balled! I perfectly understand the brief time you guys spent together. Don’t worry. I’m not bothered by it either,” she said nonchalantly.
As Mason’s former wife, Zoe felt as if her pride was savagely
stomped on by Gabriela. Anyone, no matter how generous and understanding, wouldn’t have been able to take this gracefully.
Zoe was no exception. She cursed at Mason internally and her hatred for him came back with a vengeance as well. It was unforgivable how he managed to humiliate her again.
However, she didn’t try to pick a fight with Mason’s latest love
interest.
ass
Instead, she let the servants guide her out of the private lounge. Just as she was at the door, she turned around, looked at Gabriela, and said gracefully, “Thank you, Gabriela”
The lady in question wanted to respond to her in a similar fashion, but her words were caught in her throat. Anguish washed over her, but she wasn’t sure if she was feeling sorry for Zoe or Mason.
The door to the private lounge closed.
Gabriela closed her eyes and fell into deep thought. It looked like Zoe had shut herself off from Mason as well. From here on out, Zoe was going to totally give up on Mason. She was sure of it. After all, no woman could take such a humiliation, especially when he had hurt her so thoroughly.
Gabriela was frozen where she stood for a long time.
Then, she heard the sound of a wheelchair gliding from the bedroom. A second later, Mason appeared at the bedroom door, leaning back on it. He couldn’t exactly sit straight the way ordinary people could. His body was still limp and his right arm was basically dysfunctional.
He spoke nonchalantly, “I’ll give you the project, as agreed.”
All it took to secure the billion-dollar project was for her to put up a show for his sake. However, she didn’t feel an ounce of satisfaction
from it.
Looking at him, her voice was stiff as she spoke, “I don’t get it. Why
do you have to put her through this? She’s going to leave Brookesville anyway. What’s the point of humiliating her so much?”
