I Refuse to Divorce! by Light Breeze Chapter 400

Chapter 400

It was a big day for the family, but she couldn’t help but burst into

tears.

Lisa started to confess her guilt. “If I hadn’t put Zoe through hell and tortured her, then there might still be hope for you and her.

To her surprise, Mason rebutted her. “It’s my fault. I didn’t treat her as well as I should!” Lowering his head, he said bitterly, “Zoe has a good life now. We shouldn’t mess it up for her. I’m sure she’ll start thinking about her love life when the kids grow up. She certainly is more than qualified to find another man who loves her.

Mason used to be arrogant and obnoxiously confident in the past. Now, however, he was willing to give her up to another man.

Lisa’s heart bled when she saw the sort of state her son was in now. It took her a long time to recover from the sorrow.

That was when Layla came into the study with supper. It was chicken soup. Lisa took it and got a spoonful of soup. Then, she looked at Mason with tears in her eyes. “Why don’t you move back into. Lockwood Manor, Mason? I can look after you!”

He was her son when all was said and done. She worried about him.

Mason took the other bowl of chicken soup and said lightly, “I think it’s great to live here.”

He and Zoe stayed in this manor back when they were married. There was a lot of history in this place. Some memories were bad, some were good, but all of them took place here. If she wasn’t going to come back to Brookesville, then he’d stay here. He could pretend that she could come home at any given time.

Sometimes, he’d lie on the bed and fantasize that someone was in the fitting room. Closing his eyes, he’d start

was ironing his shirt in there and everything was as it used to be.

How he wished that he could travel back to the past!

With that said, he knew better than anyone else that he couldn’t.

It had been a week since Zoe had given birth to Jamie. Mason could no longer hold himself back. He called her in the night and she answered. Her tone was polite and distant. “Yanni’s sleeping. I’ll wake her up.”

It seemed that Yanni was the only connection left between them.

He stopped her and said, “Don’t wake her up! I want to talk to you, Zoe, just for a minute.”

She remained quiet for a while before murmuring, “I have nothing to say to you, Mason!” At the next moment, he could make out the cries of a newborn baby. Then, she said, “I’m hanging up now!”

With that, she hung up the phone abruptly.

He leaned back on the couch listlessly. So, this was how it was. They were only an ocean away, but they had become each other’s unfinished business. He missed her and longed for her, but she hated him for how brutally and heartlessly he ended things between them.

The past seemed to have been forgotten as time flew by.

Zoe returned to Brookesville again the following year. This time, she came back alone. She tried to keep a low profile, but Rosemary knew that she was coming back and instructed her servants to send Zoe a birthday party invitation.

Aside from that, she even gave Zoe a call and said, “It’s been two

years since I last saw you. I’ve missed you so much! I don’t care what it takes. You have to do me a favor and join my birthday party.”

Smiling faintly, Zoe responded, “You’re too kind, Rosemary! It’s only right that I pay you a visit after such a long time.”

They were extremely close to each other. So, Zoe went to the party earlier than the designated time and helped her with some of the arrangements. It was something she had always done in the past.

Rosemary admired her decorated living room and sighed lightly, “It’s been a long time, but you’ve still got it, Zoe. Everything looks fantastic.”

Then, she invited Zoe to the guest room for a cup of coffee and to catch up on old times. At first, she asked about her life in Silvercrest. Then, she asked about Ella as well.

Lowering her head, Zoe stirred her cup with a silver spoon. After a brief moment, she smiled bitterly, “My life is the same old, same old. I’ve got Mia and the kids with me. It was going rather well. Ella, however…”

She found it hard to keep going.

Ella was living the happy life that she deserved after she got married to Farley, but he passed away in a plane crash half a year ago. He did leave a huge amount of properties to Ella and their daughter, but the other members of the O’Sullivan family seized the opportunity and tried to take it away from her.

Ella had been dealing with them ever since.
