Chapter 401
After a brief moment, Zoe said softly, “Ella’s going to move her businesses back to Brookesville.”
Rosemary knew about it. After all, she was friends with Farley. Then,
she gripped Zoe’s hands and said, “She can move back to Brookesville anytime. Just give me a call if she needs help with anything. I’ll be there for her.”
Smiling faintly, Zoe responded, “You have my thanks.”
Rosemary waved it off, signaling her that this was what friends do for each other.
Both of them were a little saddened by this particular turn of events!
At the next moment, a servant came in and told Rosemary that her important guests had arrived.
Excusing herself, she said, “I’ve been wanting to make a connection with this guest for quite some time now. It took me several attempts to get this person to come to my party. Please excuse me, Zoe. You’re more than welcome to feel at home here.”
Zoe smiled faintly in response as her friend left.
After Rosemary left, she took a stroll in the backyard because it was quieter there. After some time, she turned around and unexpectedly
saw Mason.
He was sitting in a wheelchair with his back turned to the starry night sky, staring at her in silence. The tuxedo he wore brought out his defining features and accentuated his stunning looks. He was way thinner than when she last saw him, though…
Both of them locked gazes at each other for so long that everything

else faded into the background. Her face started twitching involuntarily as she stared at him. She had both loved and hated him intensely in the past and she didn’t expect she’d run into him at all.
She didn’t prepare herself for this and her heart was shivering.
A waiter passed by and offered them champagne, mellowing out the moment by a fraction.
Mason took a glass and looked at her. “Would you like a glass too?”
Zoe shook her head, dazed.
He didn’t push her. So, he waved the waiter off before looking at her again. “Are you just back here for a few days? Or are you moving back
here?”
erself, she rested her glance at him. A moment ago, he ss of champagne with his left hand and he was still
it with the same hand now. There was also the fact that he
in a wheelchair.
Before she could ask anything, he chuckled at himself. “I had a little car accident at the end of last year. I might sit in a wheelchair for quite some time and my right hand is busted for the time being too. With that said, I’m getting more and more comfortable with my left
hand now.”
Not wishing to dwell on this topic, he continued to ask her about her plans.
The fact was that she intended to move back to Brookesville. Jamie’s
hay fever kept acting up and the doctor advised them to move to Brookesville anyway. That was why she was planning to move back here with the kids and Mia next month. Ella was going to do the same thing too.
However, she didn’t tell him about any of this.

As far as she was concerned, he was with Gabriela now. The last thing she wanted was to throw a wrench in their relationship with her
return.
So, she gave him some ambiguous answers and refrained from bringing up Jamie.
Mason was a little disappointed at her response.
Not wishing to linger here any longer, she said her farewells softly, “I should probably go now…”
He was very reluctant to let her leave. Truth be told, he joined the party because he knew she’d be there. That was why he mustered the courage to appear before her in his sorry state. That was why he cooked up the nonsense car accident in the first place.
He didn’t know that their conversation wouldn’t even last five minutes.
It was clear that she didn’t want to spend any time with him. He knew that was why she said her farewells so soon. He said hastily, “Let me send you home! Luke’s still in the car.”
“No thanks,” she said. “It isn’t appropriate.”
Clenching his fist, he tried to take in her delicate features while he still could. He asked softly, “What’s so inappropriate about it? We have a couple of kids together. Isn’t it commonplace that we maintain some sort of connection for our kids’ sake?”
At that moment, Zoe could no longer maintain her calm demeanor.
She asked him sharply, “For our kids’ sake? Perhaps you should think about where you’ve been for the past two years, Mason. Yanni has never stopped asking about you at night.
“Do you think a few phone calls would cut it? Do you think such pathetic attempts could stop her from crying because she missed
you so much? That’s not even considering Jamie, who.”
