He should’ve been happy when she said she wouldn’t bother him anymore, but he found it a little disheartening all the same.

Bending down, she closed the car door for him. She got quite close to him when she was doing it. In fact, she got so close that he could smell the sweet scent of formula off of Jamie as well as the faint odor of her perfume. It was a floral scent, the one she had always used in the past. Her tastes hadn’t changed.
The scent was so sweet and fulfilling that it nourished Mason’s emaciated, hollowed out heart. At the same time, however, it also reawakened his dormant lust.
He stared at her so profoundly that she felt as if he was boring right
into her soul.
Then, the car door closed and blocked their view. Smacking his hands together, Luke said, “It’s my duty to close the car doors for both you
and Mr. Mason!”
All of a sudden, it hit him.
Zoe looked at ease when he put both of them in the same senten He was smart enough to have a good idea about what it meant. Getting into the car, the elation he felt made him feel as if he was
years younger.
In the backseat, Yanni kept chatting happily with Mason. It seemed as if she had endless things to tell him about. Mason, on the other hand, merely stared at her lovingly.
Yanni was still young, he thought to himself. She had no idea about
all the bittersweet moments the world would have in store for her as
she grew up.
However, she slowly trailed off to silence before regarding him with a dazed look. After a long time, she held his arms and said softly, “I just remembered about the nightmare I had years ago, Dad.”
In the nightmare, her dad had lay down motionlessly on the operating table. She saw the doctor administer anesthetics to him and the needle looked thick and sharp… No matter how loud she called out to him, he didn’t wake up.
In the past, she never understood why he was sleeping in the operating room.
Now, however, she knew that her dad had sacrificed himself for her.
Yanni didn’t cry. Instead, she held him tightly.
She knew everything!
The fact was, she had known it all along. She just didn’t realize it.
Mason’s eyes turned red. He hugged her back, squeezing her in his embrace. He sacrificed so much to cure her and it was one of the
best decisions he had ever made.
If it was really possible to swap one life for another, he believed that there would be a lot of young parents in the underworld.
He was able to pull it off because Lady Luck was kind to them. That’s
all.
The black limousine cruised steadily along the freeway. Yanni leaned on her father’s chest longingly, wishing she could stay with him. forever.
Luke didn’t miss out on any chances to make quippy remarks.
Mason called Ava and asked her to arrange a hotel for the important
client.
Ava could guess what had just happened. So, she nodded and said, ” Leave it to me, Mr. Mason. I’ll make sure our client feels right at
home!”
Hanging up the phone, she let out a sigh of relief.
A couple of hours later, the black limousine pulled into the manor and drove through the yard before stopping at the parking slot.
Layla heard it and rushed over to open the car door. To her surprise,
Yanni was in the car as well.
Patting his little girl’s head, Mason said tenderly, “It’s Yanni! Zoe has brought the kids back. They’re going to stay in Brookesville.”
After all, Layla was pratically a part of the family.
She was overjoyed to hear what he said. Pulling Yanni over, she looked her over and said affectionately, “You’ve grown so much, Yanni! How beautiful.
Ou’re both slender and tall. I’m calling it now. You’re going to turn out to be just as exquisite as your mother is.”

Yanni actually remembered her. She called out cheerfully, “It’s yo Layla!”
It melted Layla’s heart.
Turning to Mason, she said, “I’m going to have the kitchen make some special dishes for the occasion! Wait a minute… Where are Ms. Zoe and Jamie? Why aren’t they in the car with you, Mr. Mason?”
He responded lightly, “She’s sending Deborah home! You’re right. Prepare some special dishes. We have guests tonight.”
Layla could barely contain her exhilaration.
