Chapter 429 

Zoe turned and looked at Scarlett once her kids left. 

Scarlett had just started working in Lockwood Hospital a few years back. Moreover, she only ever worked in the rehabilitation 

department. So, it stood to reason that she had never seen Zoe before. This was the first time she had seen her. 

The summer was ending and Zoe wore a long shift dress. It highlighted her slender figure and gave rise to a sophisticated and graceful air about her. 

It was women’s nature to draw comparisons. Scarlett scanned Zoe and found herself feeling unsettled. Zoe was way too slender and beautiful for someone who had two kids. This charm about her could only be cultivated by living a refined, elegant life. 

Scarlett felt worse about herself and didn’t exactly hide it. Reaching out, she looked at Zoe and said purposefully, “Greetings, Ms. Zoe. I’m Mr. Mason’s private doctor. You can call me Scarlett. I stay in the 

manor now.” 

She was trying to assert dominance. 

Taking her hands, Zoe flashed her a faint smile. “You can just call Zoe. I’m Mason’s ex-wife. Truth be told, I have a boyfriend too! I’d wager we’ll meet each other quite frequently from this point on. Afte all, I needed to raise both of my kids together with Mason. 

“As you know, Mason isn’t in the position to deal with everything in the manor. So, it’s only right that I do my part and help him with some of it. Is that going to be a problem, Dr. Scarlett?” 

Scarlett felt a little humiliated. 

The way she saw it, Zoe was stepping over her boundaries. They were divorced and she said that she had a new boyfriend. What made her think she should take care of things in the manor? 

She couldn’t help but look at Mason, the man of the house. 

However, he didn’t intend to speak up for her. She had no choice but to pick up the medicine and a glass of water. She said, “It’s time you take your medicine, Mr. Mason!” She was intentionally acting all intimate with him, and he didn’t stop her, either. 

Zoe was the one who spoke up. “Wait a second!” 

Taking the pills from Scarlett, she checked them and said, “I asked Cecil about these medicines. He explicitly said that they should be taken after meals, instead of the other way around. Otherwise, it’ll do more harm than good to Mason. 

“The hospital recommended you to Mason, Scarlett. Naturally, that means you’re a medical expert who’s outstanding in every way. How is it that you could make such a rookie mistake?” 

Scarlett started panicking and tears began to well up in her eyes. Tucking away the medicine, she explained hastily, “It’s my fault. I’ll more careful next time, Ms. Zoe.” Then, she went away in a hurry. 

Zoe decided to let her off the hook. She said to Mason, “I’m going 

check on the kids.” 

Now that they were alone, he grabbed her arms gently, but he released his grip a second later. Staring into her eyes, he said softly, It’s not that big a deal! Why do you have to pick on the poor lady?” 

She glanced at him for a moment. Then, she asked, “Is she your latest lover?” 

He didn’t confirm or deny it. 

Smiling, she said nonchalantly, “If she’s your lover, then I’ll refrain from lecturing her in the future. Don’t worry about it, Mason. I didn’t do it because I’m jealous! You made it very clear that there was 

nothing left between us. 

“All I’m doing is executing my duty as your ex-wife and the mother of your children. I felt that it was only right for me to look out for you.” Her smile grew thinner and she said, “I guess you can say that it’s guilt. On top of that, I also have no interest in taking over your company. So, it works in my favor if you lead a long, healthy life!” 

What she said pissed him off. 

He wanted to grab her arms again, but she stepped out of the way. Staring at him, she said tenderly, “It’s best if we keep a distance from each other. I know what happened the last time we met, but it’s not going to happen again. After all, I wouldn’t want to upset David…” 

Lifting her long black hair, she walked toward the door. 

He simply watched as she left. Her slender figure and her hips were perfectly proportioned. She swayed gently with each step she took, giving rise to a mature, feminine charm. 

He could just feel himself falling for her again….
