Chapter 432
Mason sat in his wheelchair and watched as they left.
All of a sudden, his mind traveled back to the moment in time when Zoe used to ask for one hundred thousand dollars from him timidly. Back then, he used to think she couldn’t stand on her own feet and had to rely on him for everything. Now, however, she was like a rose, beautiful but sharp.
The evening light cast an orange, fiery glow across the entire sky, as
if heaven itself was on fire.
The silver Rolls-Royce Phantom pulled out of the manor slowly.
Mason started feeling hollow inside. In the end, she still left him
alone.
The brief meet-up today did nothing but make him more eager to see them again.
Twenty minutes later, Zoe pulled into a manor. Back when she planned to move back to Brookesville, she decided to buy a manor herself and her family, which had grown bigger. There was also Deborah to consider. She felt that it would be better if they lived in much more spacious place.
More to the point, the manor was much closer to Mason’s home than her previous apartment.
By the time she parked her car, dusk had rolled on, consuming the last traces of the evening sun’s orange glow.
Then, Zoe helped both of her kids out of the car. Yanni was holding a doll to her chest when she suddenly spoke up, “Dad wanted to give
Sherry to me. I was about to take it with me, but then I realized something. Dad lives alone. He might need Sherry more than I do.”
Zoe was so moved that she planted a kiss on her little girl’s forehead.
Yanni beamed up in response. Following her mother’s footsteps, she asked tenderly, “When are we going to Dad’s place again, Mom?”
Zoe responded affectionately, “We’ll go there anytime you miss him.”
That put a big smile on Yanni’s face.
Mia was waiting for them at the door. Yanni called out to her, ” Grandma!” and leaped into her arms. Stroking her granddaughter’s back lovingly, Mia asked her about her time in Mason’s place.
The little girl didn’t know about the intricacies of adult relationships. So, she blurted out everything. Then, she added, “I’m going to become a doctor when I grow up! That way, I can cure Daddy by giving him injections and medicines.”
She sounded so innocent and naive that Mia couldn’t help but feel a lump in her throat. With that said, she knew she had to keep it together in front of Yanni.
She waited until both of the kids were sleeping soundly that nigh
before she had the talk with Zoe.
“I really hope Mason will get better. Otherwise, Yanni’s going to herself up when she grows up and understands the magnitude of
actions.”
Trying to comfort her, Zoe responded, “I’ll do everything I can.”
Mia was about to say something, but she decided against it.
The truth was, she was still heartbroken for Zoe because of the pain that Mason put her through. There was nothing she could do about it, though. He sacrificed so much for Yanni that it was impossible for
Zoe to feel nothing for him.
Then, both of them got to talking about Noah.
Over the past few years, Noah had grown his business big enough to rival that of Farley’s. He was also slowly moving his business back Brookesville.

Mia was still angry over the culprit behind their suffering. “Do you think your dad would’ve died so soon if it wasn’t for Liam? For that matter, do you think Noah would’ve had to suffer so much? I’m telling you, one day, karma’s going to bite that damned Liam in the butt.”
Zoe remained quiet in response. The past still felt so overwhelming that it suffocated her whenever it popped up in her mind.
Patting her hand comfortingly, Mia said, “Forget about him! My point is, we have to stay away from him if we should run into him on the street. Trust me when I say a scumbag who knows how to circumvent the legal system is the scariest man in the world!”
Zoe responded, “I hear you loud and clear. Don’t worry about me, Mia.”
Mia cast one last glance at the sleeping kids before she walked out of the master bedroom lightly.
The master bedroom was a suite, complete with a kid’s room and study. That made it much easier for Zoe to keep an eye on her children. That was what she wanted to do. She intended to look a them and educate them herself. She was going to be there for e milestone in their growth.
Midnight was when she’d have time to deal with her work.
Wrapping up her work for The One Gourmet, she took a bath and
applied her skincare while wearing a bathrobe. That was when Mason sent her a text.
“Are the kids asleep?”
It was a brief text, but she stared at it for a long time nonetheless.
Affection filled her eyes as she began to compose a reply text and
sent it over.
“They’ve just fallen asleep.”
Then, he sent another reply to her almost immediately.
