Chapter 434
Scarlett was disheartened when she saw how much Mason wanted it to happen. She had stayed at the manor for a long time, spending every single day with him. However, he had never shown any intention of remarrying Zoe. In fact, he hadn’t even visited his kids in Silvercrest.
Now, it seemed, Zoe’s return had changed everything!
He would stare off into space or dwell in fear of losing her all the time. Zoe had singlehandedly turned him into the mess he was now.
Scarlett had sharp instincts too. She could tell that Zoe still had feelings for Mason. All she had to do was stare into her eyes.
Why?! Why did it have to be like this?!
They had been divorced for years. Why did Zoe have to return and
shake his conviction?
For that, she seriously disliked Zoe.
With that said, she had to give in to her for the time being.
“That’s right. Ms. Zoe’s going to the hospital as well.”
She had no interest in seeing the joy in his face, so she closed th door swiftly.
He was still staring out the window. The light from the ceiling was very bright and he saw his reflection in the window. He was nothing more than a man in a wheelchair.
Mocking himself, he fell into deep thought.
What exactly is there for you to look forward to, Mason?
The next day, Mason went to Lockwood Hospital with Scarlett in tow. They arrived at the second floor and saw Zoe standing at the end of the hallway, talking to Cecil. Wheeling himself over, he gave both of them a good scare.
Turning around, she rested her gaze on him before glancing at
Scarlett, who stood behind him. About ten seconds later, she leaned
over and said to Cecil, “It’s a date then, Cecil. I’ll see you at seven
tonight.”
Cecil was genuinely startled when he heard what she said. Then, it hit him and he smiled affectionately, “It’s a date!”
Mason’s face grew grim at that.
He didn’t talk to Zoe at all during the checkup. The truth was, he missed her dearly. It had been days since he last saw her or heard her
voice. However, he didn’t so much as make a peep.
The result from the checkup showed that there hadn’t been any new
progress, as usual.
Cecil prescribed some medication to him and took some time
to him alone.
Zoe had just sponsored twenty million dollars to build an international laboratory that would specialize in studying Ma condition. His job was to convince Mason to work with them. Needless to say, he didn’t tell him that she was the sponsor behi
In the end, they spent a long time talking about the laboratory.
Just then, a nurse knocked on the door and opened it. She looked worried.
“The patient in ward four hundred and twenty-eight suddenly came down with a high fever, Dr. Cecil. You have to take a look at him now!

Rising immediately, Cecil apologized to Mason. “I need to go! Let’s talk more about this the next time we meet.”
Mason nodded in response. Then, he sat in silence for a moment after Cecil left.
He wheeled himself out and saw that Scarlett wasn’t around. Zoe, however, was sitting outside with a cup of coffee in her hand. More importantly, she was using Cecil’s cup.
Zoe didn’t say anything for the longest time.
Clearing his throat, he looked at her questioningly, “Isn’t David your boyfriend? Why are you having dinner with Cecil? Aren’t you worried that David might get mad?”
Taking a sip of her coffee, she paged through the day’s newspaper.
The sunlight cascaded around her, giving rise to an air of serenity./ She wasn’t here to keep him company on his checkup. Instead, she
looked like she was here to see Cecil.
She responded nonchalantly, “David’s cool with it.”
Then, she pretended to have thought of something and frowne him. “I don’t have an obligation to let you know anything abou private life!”
That pissed him off immensely…
Refusing to respond to her, he wheeled himself off. The ear-pierc sound of the wheelchair filled the air, giving voice to the intense frustration he was feeling at that moment.
Raising her eyes, she watched as he left. There was a faint smile on her face, but it vanished not long after. In its place, there was a deep sorrow in her eyes.
She was heartbroken at the thought of what she was putting Mason
through.
Zoe was still wallowing in her sorrow after a long time. She barely
had time to wipe away her tears when Cecil showed up.
