I Refuse to Divorce! by Light Breeze Chapter 464

Chapter 464

The doorman, who was standing by the door, asked him respectfully,” Shall I announce your arrival, Mr. Mason?”

The party…

What the doorman said triggered him. He mocked himself and said, ” That won’t be necessary!”

At the next moment, he wheeled himself out of there frantically.

He went fast at it. Never had he hated himself so much. This was the first time he felt as if he was a clown, a loser…

How ridiculous it was that he thought he’d surprise her at the party.

He thought he’d finally show her that she gave him enough courage to come to the party like any ordinary person would.

The whole thing was absurd!

How dare he think he was the same as anybody else?

What part of him was normal now, for crying out loud?

He didn’t even dare to go to the party because he was so worried about how the others would look at him. He was also worried tha other guests would ask her that question.

What was she doing with a man like that?

Zoe ran out and caught a car driving off in the dark of night.

She stood there quietly for a long time.

Wearing a blank expression, she was crushed by the sense of hopelessness on the inside. She knew far too well why Mason had come here, only to leave in less than a minute.

Her chauffeur came over and said softly, “Should we go back now, Ms. Zoe?”

Shaking her head gently, she responded, “Give it another hour!” It was clear that Mason didn’t want her to know he was there. So, she was going to give him that, at least.

The night was quiet out here. Tugging at her scarf, she turned back and went back inside, looking lonely.

Once she was back at the party with all the wealthy people, she couldn’t help but regret coming here. She shouldn’t have come here. Otherwise, what had just transpired wouldn’t have happened.

Rosemary came over and chatted with her, but all she could muster was a forced smile.

Then, Rosemary’s doorman told her what happened and she tried to soothe Zoe. “It takes time. That’s all. He was such a proud man, after all. I’m sure he’ll come around.”

“Yeah,” Zoe responded as tears filled her eyes.

She checked the time and decided that she should leave. “I’ Rosemary, but I have to go back now.”

Rosemary didn’t try to convince her to stay. She, too, was worrie

about her and Mason.

On her way back, Zoe kept checking her phone in the car.

However, Mason hadn’t called her.

So, she tried to call him instead. He answered it and said dryly, “Is the party over? Did you have fun?”

It was

dark in the car. There were tears in her eyes, but her tone was soft. “Same old, same old! I’m coming back home now, Mason.

There’s a burger joint on the way back. Do you want me to bring home supper?”

“I’m not hungry.”

His voice was a little stern, but he quickly softened and said, “Go ahead and buy some for yourself.”

Zoe could only cry.

Biting the back of her hand, she responded, “Sure! See you soon.”

By the time she got back, her kids were already asleep while Mason was still in his study.

He was sitting by the window, smoking.

Zoe opened the door and was immediately choked by the thick clouds of smoke. Closing the door, she walked over to the window and opened it, allowing some of the smoke to escape the room.

She said softly, “It’s stifling in here. You have to smoke less!”

With the cigarette in his fingers, his eyes grew darker. “This is the hobby I have left. Are you trying to take it away from me too?”

Her finger twitched at that..

However, she didn’t want to upset him. She said warmly, “I’m just asking you to smoke less. That’s all.

He retorted, “I’m sure there was all sorts of smoke at Rosemary’s party! Cigarettes, cigars, and more… You didn’t seem to be bothered by it. I don’t suppose you asked the guests to smoke less!”

Mason was obviously trying to pick a fight with her.

Zoe didn’t want to fight with him. She fanned the smoke out of the study and walked towards the door, intending to go back to the guest room to take a shower.

The moment she turned around, he grabbed her arm.

Raising his head, he asked softly, “You knew I was there. Why didn’t you ask me about it?”
