Chapter 465
Zoe responded to him in an equally soft voice, “What do you want me to say?”
Mason pulled her closer and tightened his grip so much that he
almost hurt her. “You’re supposed to ask me why I didn’t go into the mansion!”
“Well. Why didn’t you?”
Before he could respond, she said, “You didn’t used to be this difficult, Mason! You have the freedom to attend the party or otherwise. I can’t be minding your feelings all the time. I can’t spend all my time guessing if what I do is going to make you upset! It’s just going to wear us out if we do it that way.”
There. She finally said it!
However, she regretted it a little afterward. She said meekly, “Mason…”
He didn’t give her the chance to regret her words.
Releasing her hand, he turned his back to the window and allowed the dark thoughts to overtake his mind. His voice was even softer than the gentle night.
“It’s very hard to love you sometimes, Zoe!”
She was just standing right in front of him. All it took was a step and she could’ve touched him.
Now, however, he didn’t know that there were tears in her eyes. All he cared about at that moment was for her to leave. He wanted to stop loving her and leave him alone.
In the end, Zoe didn’t leave him. However, there was a wedge between

them now.
As time went by, their love for their kids and the liveliness in the manor mended their wounds to some extent. Now, she very rarely slept in the master bedroom. Sometimes, she’d sleep with the kids in there. Other times, she’d sleep in the guest room.
From time to time, Mason would come to the guest room and have sex with her, but it no longer felt the same. They’d remain quiet the entire time. He’d suppress the pleasure he felt and she’d hold her moans back. She wasn’t turned on most of the time.
In fact, she was only doing it to satisfy him.
On the other hand, Mason began getting rougher and rougher with her. On top of that, he was too impatient to wait for her to be turned on before getting down to business. Zoe would feel pain down there by the time they were done. However, she’d still drag her sore body and do the cleanup every time.
Mason had never stayed the night in the guest room.
After he left, she sat on the carpet for a long time. There were used condoms in the trash can right next to her.
Their relationship in its current form exhausted her.
She didn’t mind that she had to take care of him and she respected
his feelings. If he didn’t want to go out of the house, then she
wouldn’t force him!
What she couldn’t stand was how coldly he was treating her. It always took her back to the painful, ugly past when he used to intentionally hurt her.
Two months had come and gone. Zoe grew significantly thinner.
Sometimes, she wanted to have a talk with him, but they could never understand each other. Mason had locked himself in his isolated

world. Moreover, she could sense that he was regretting it.
He regretted having taken her back in the first place.
More time went by and Zoe no longer knew what she was holding on to. Perhaps she was waiting for spring. Perhaps a miracle would happen then. She was hoping against hope that he would go back to his old self when he was fully recovered.
November came and David returned to the country.
He met a young girl overseas. She had fair skin and a head of black
hair.
She looked just like Zoe when she was twenty years old.
David invited Zoe out for lunch. Aside from catching up on old times, he also brought her some information about Mason’s condition. This was valuable information from overseas. David had to pull some strings with his client to get them.
Zoe was reading the documents while David’s girlfriend kep closer to him. She was very clingy and always sought his at Obviously, the young girl came from a wealthy family and was as innocent as they came.
She must’ve stared at them for too long because David rubbed his nose uncomfortably. Then, he decided to take her back to the suite.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to talk to Zoe.
