Chapter 473
Naturally, Zoe rejected him.
Staring at the bouquet of roses in her hand, Mason asked dryly, “Is that from Saül?”
As a matter of fact, she bought it for herself, but she wasn’t about to admit it to him. So, she said nonchalantly, “It’s none of your business now, Mr. Mason.”
His eyes grew darker at the cold way she addressed him. He was still looking at Zoe, but he directed his orders to Luke, who was sitting in the driver’s seat. “Please invite Ms. Zoe into our car.”
The poor, old chauffeur was caught in the crossfire!
The way they addressed each other was cold and distant. It felt as if, they could explode at any given moment. Luke didn’t enjoy being stuck in the middle of them, but he still got out of the car and talked
to Zoe.
“The snowfall’s getting worse, Ms. Zoe! Please get into the car. Otherwise, I won’t be able to explain myself to Mr. Mason.” He looked at her warmly. He knew Zoe would pay him some respect.
So, Zoe got into the car.
It was spacious and dark in there. Both of them sat shoulder-to- shoulder for a long time and remained quiet.
Luke broke the silence. “Like I said, the snowfall’s getting worse. So, it pays to drive slower than usual.”
She didn’t say anything to that.
Turning her head to the side, she looked out the window. The snow
brightened everything outside, making a sharp contrast to the depressing darkness in the limousine. She didn’t even realize when she lost herself in the view outside.
Out of nowhere, someone held her hand.
Turning to the other side, she looked at him. Mason was wearing a blank expression as if he wasn’t the one who held her hand first. Moreover, his grip tightened the moment she turned and looked at
him.
He might’ve acted as if there was nothing wrong, but the awkward silence paradoxically accentuated the fact that he overstepped his
bounds.
They might’ve been married for years and knew each other’s bodies
quite well, but he did go a tad too far.
Zoe didn’t say anything to him. Instead, she withdrew her hand sharply and continued to admire the view out the car window. Snowflakes were swirling in the air and covered the sky in a world of
white.

He asked her again, “Did Saül buy you the bouquet?”
Tilting her head, she looked at him. They were sitting very close to each other. In fact, they could even smell each other’s scents. His aftershave blended with her perfume in perfect harmony, creating a unique, pleasant smell.
However, she kept a cool head.
Staring into his eyes, she asked him, “Are you going to play your games again? Am I supposed to love you from the bottom of my heart and give you everything I have, only for you to tell me that you’re sick of torturing yourself before you pull the rug out from under my feet? Is that how it works?! That’s pointless and stupid, Mason.”
Lowering her voice, she added, “Love isn’t breaking up and getting back together over and over again.”
Now, she was in a foul mood. Throughout their time as a couple and even after marriage, she had always been the one who chased after him. However, who wouldn’t want to know for sure that their spouses
wanted them?
He was the one who didn’t want her love. He was the one who had lost the courage to love her again. As for her… She was sick and tired of it. That was all.
It was dark in the limousine, but he could still see tears in the corner of her eyes. So, he stopped asking about the bouquet and merely glanced at her tenderly. How he wished they were still married.
“Stop crying.” Then, he added, “Are you going to start your life over?”
Her eyes turned red at the question. Still looking out the window, she responded briefly, “Absolutely!”
After that, they didn’t speak to each other again, nor did he hold her hands. They just sat in the limousine and waited until it reached its destination, reminiscent of the fact that their relationship was coming to an end.
Darkness draped over the sky.
The street lights turned on and cast their glow into the limousine as it drove past them. It shone on Mason and Zoe’s faces, adding a sense of mystery to their expressions.
At last, the black limousine pulled over in front of Zoe’s manor.
Snow continued to fall and blanketed it.
The moment she got out of the car, he instinctively grabbed her hand. Turning around, she gazed at him quietly and distantly.

At the next moment, he released her and handed her the cashmere
scarf. “You forgot this.”
