Sherry replied briefly before hanging up the phone.
Maverick’s words to her on the drive back today rang an alarm bell in her head.
Whether Maverick was Mr. Sniper or not, she needed to keep her distance from Mateo.

She and the nurses moved her uncle back. Sherry’s vision blurred as she sank to the

Sherry felt like she was wandering in a scorching desert, with no direction and no end
in sight, just walking, walking, walking…

Water was gently poured into her lips, cooling and rejuvenating her.
She drank excessively, and the cold sensation in her throat eventually woke her up.

company, come to me proactively. It’s not embarrassing to be helpless. I am your man;
why do you always want to bear everything on your own?”
His words startled Sherry, making her heart skip a beat.
“I can handle it; I’ve survived all these
years, and it won’t be any different in the future.”
Mr. Sniper chuckled and shook his head. “You’re so stubborn.”
Sherry felt a little better after resting in his warm and comforting embrace.
Even though the room was still dark, she could hear his breathing in her ears. She

imagined herself as a little boat floating in the waves, eventually reaching a safe harbor.
“My uncle…”
“He’s doing well; I’ve arranged for four caregivers to keep an eye on him; Sophia will not
be allowed to see him again.”
Sherry’s body tensed. “You know?”
“Anything related to you, I know. Sophia’s mother is about to return, along with her
allegedly powerful stepfather; they should be here to discuss Sophia and Malcolm’s
marriage.”
Sherry nodded, unsurprised.
Sherry, after all, still had a mother. Without even a ceremony or a marriage certificate,
the wedding couldn’t be as straightforward as it was back then. Malcolm had taken her
to the Civil Affairs Bureau to have a lawyer address the situation.

Sherry blushed at his comment. “In any case, I’m very grateful to have you.”
“If you’re feeling guilty, could you please recover quickly and have a child with me,
hmm?”
Mr. Sniper’s desires were always strong, but Sherry was currently ill, so he wouldn’t take
advantage of her.
