“The concept of ‘beauty‘ is highly subjective; as the saying goes, “beauty is in the eye of
the beholder.
Mateo sighed and rolled his eyes. “I want to clarify that I’m not complimenting you, but
when it comes to looks, I have confidence in you. In my brother’s company, there are so
many female celebrities who look unattractive without makeup that just one glance at
them makes me feel nauseous.”
Sherry wasn’t sure why the conversation had suddenly shifted to her appearance, but
she didn’t want to discuss her personal concerns, especially with her boss.
She could only nod hesitantly. “Thank you for your affirmation, Mr. Mateo.”
Mateo smirked. “So, what happens next? Malcolm is quite wealthy; even if you divorce
him, you should be able to get a lot of money. Why are you in such a poor financial
situation that you have to come out and look for work?”
Sherry took a deep breath and said, “I left with nothing.”
Mateo didn’t press any further at this moment.
What could compel a woman to leave Malcolm, even if it meant starting over?
Sherry’s character was strong despite her gentle temperament. She would never
forgive her spouse for betraying and cheating on her. She was far superior to those

Sherry declined. “No need to worry; Malcolm will divorce me by the end of this month at
the latest.”
Mateo raised an eyebrow. “Are you sure? He was still being inappropriate with you

considered prominent young talents in Herzoslovakia City, and yet you’ve played us all
like puppets, Sherry. You’re quite something.
Sherry didn’t dare to respond because she wasn’t sure if he was being genuine or not,
so she didn’t know what to say.
She stated that her marriage to Malcolm was legitimate, as were her feelings for Mr.
Sniper.
She didn’t refute anything.
Mateo was the only one who made her feel uneasy.
Mateo, who had a bird’s–eye view, couldn’t possibly have feelings for her, as Malcolm
claimed.
“Don’t doubt me; I never lie, and I genuinely care about you.”
Sherry’s heartbeat quickened.
“But I consider myself a gentleman, and I will not become a beast like Malcolm.”
This phrase triggered a warning in Sherry’s mind.
She was currently terrified, like a frightened bird. It had nothing to do with personality or
trust.
Mateo chuckled as he noticed her terrified and powerless appearance in the rearview
mirror,
“Are you scared?”
Sherry made a shaky motion with her head. “No, I’m just cold; could you please turn up
the air conditioning?”
Mateo remarked, half–jokingly, half–threateningly, “If I turn it up, I’m afraid I won’t be able
to control myself.”
Sherry hastily waved her hand when she heard this. “Then that’s fine; being cold keeps
me alert.”
There was a continuous flow of vehicles and people outside the car window. Some
were racing, while others were strolling leisurely.
Human diversity and stories were never lacking in this culture.
After a while, Sherry noticed that the route did not lead to the Hilton Hotel. “Mr. Mateo,
could you please take me back to the hotel?” she pleaded.
“No,” Mateo said once again. “Unless you tell me who that ‘friend‘ at the hotel you’re
staying with is.”
Sherry remained silent.

Her phone received a text message.
“Are you okay? Don’t worry about the divorce; leave it to me. I’ll meet you in the room-
Sniper.”
For some reason, Sherry’s emotions calmed down when she saw Mr. Sniper’s message.
She wouldn’t shiver even if the air conditioning was freezing.
“Well, Mr. Mateo, you can just leave me on the side of the road; I’ll take a taxi back.
myself,” she answered more confidently.
Mateo raised an eyebrow. “How did you suddenly change so much after reading a text
message?”
“Popeye gains strength from eating spinach, but you gain it from reading a text
message? Who has such magical power that a single text message can cause such a
significant change in you?”
Sherry didn’t explain. “It’s a very important friend.”
“A guy?”
“Yes.”
“The one at the Hilton Hotel?”
Sherry nodded. “Yes.”
Mateo’s face instantly darkened. “What is your relationship? If you don’t explain clearly, I
won’t let you out of the car.”

But now that she had made a lifelong commitment to Mr. Sniper, she was fearless.
“He’s the person I want to spend the rest of my life with.”

“Shut up! Damn it, you’ve irritated me; I finally played the hero and saved the beauty, but

Mateo angrily honked his horn. “Now I’m curious, what kind of remarkable ability does

His anger intensified, and Sherry decided not to provoke him any further, so she
remained silent.
