Chapter 53
Sherry felt a sudden tightness in her chest.
Mateo turned to look at Sherry, who was still hunched in the back seat. His voice was
deep: “Hmm, she’s in my car.”
Maverick seemed to say something else on the other end of the phone. Mateo replied
with a “Hmm” and quickly hung up.
Unable to contain her curiosity, Sherry questioned tentatively, “What did your brother
say?”
“What does my brother have to do with you?” Mateo scoffed. “Sherry, you’re really
something; you even managed to deceive my brother? Are you some kind of witch?
This is just too much.”
Sherry pouted. Would she have allowed Sophia to ruin her marriage if she were a
witch?
If she had been a witch, she would have scratched Malcolm’s face with a single stroke.
“He said to drop you off at the intersection ahead, and he’ll come pick you up,” Mateo
stated anxiously, running his hand through his hair. He added, “Sherry, if you already
have someone else, you better tell my brother soon. Don’t make him look like a fool like
me.”
Sherry stroked her nose. Your brother is not who you think he is, and he knows far more
than you do.
“Hmm.”
The sky–blue SUV came to a stop in the shadow of the trees at the crossing.
Mateo was about to tell her the theme for the next car exhibition when Sherry couldn’t
wait any longer and interrupted him. She slammed the car door open and dashed out.
She was heading in the same direction as Maverick’s black car.
Maverick stood at the car, leaning against the door, his phone in his hand.
Sn… Mr. Morgan, Sherry called out, panting you came to pick me up.”

Maverick raised his head, and a smile appeared on his lips as he spotted her. “Hmm,
let’s get in the car.”
Unlike when Mateo forced her into the car earlier, Sherry’s steps were light this time,
and she sat right in the passenger seat.
The engine roared as soon as she got in the car, and she heard a buzzing sound. The
sky–blue SUV unleashed its full power, speeding past the black car’s door, terrifying
Sherry so much that she nearly yelled.

“What is Mateo doing?” Sherry couldn’t speak for a moment because she was terrified!
“Isn’t he afraid of car accidents? It’s so dangerous!”
Maverick chuckled quietly and smoothly started the car. “He’s been dealing with cars
for over ten years, so there’s no problem. However, this kid has a volatile temper, so

Sherry, too, didn’t want to pay attention to him.
Who would want to work for a boss with a terrible temper if it wasn’t for the money?

“Are you hurt?” Maverick said quietly as he drove slowly.
Only then did Sherry recall her current disheveled appearance. She had been so
delighted to meet him that she had forgotten…
“I’m not hurt. Mr. Mateo arrived just in time; I don’t know what Malcolm would have
done today if it hadn’t been for him.” Sherry shivered as she remembered Malcolm
dragging her to the back seat with angry eyes.
She was pregnant, and if Malcolm had succeeded, she would have been too
embarrassed to meet Mr. Sniper again.
“Mr. Morgan, should we go back to the Hilton Hotel now?”
Maverick replied with a “Hmm” and continued, “Let’s go back and take a shower and
change clothes.”
OK, Sherry responded obediently.
The car came to a halt in front of the Hilton Hotel. Sherry got out of the car and waited

for him on the side of the road.
“You go up first; I’ll park the car,” Maverick said.
“All right, I’ll go up and get the bathwater ready for you.”

Sherry dashed into the hotel, and Maverick sighed softly as she entered the elevator.

He took out his phone and dialed: “I’ve safely returned her to the hotel, and I told her I’m
going to park the car so you can come up at the appropriate time.”
“OK,” said the deep and compelling voice on the other end of the phone. Sherry would
recognize this voice if she were present.
Maverick straightened his tie and swallowed. “When do you plan to tell her the truth?
She thinks I’m you, and Mateo thinks I’m trying to steal the woman he likes. He’s really
angry. Well, I can take the blame for a while, but I can’t take it for a lifetime.”
I know; I’ll wait a little longer and tell her after I finish with that.”
“Don’t wait any longer. The sooner you explain, the better. The longer you wait, the
deeper the misunderstanding will become. I think Sherry is a simple and kind–hearted
girl. If she finds out that you and I have conspired to deceive her, it will be a huge blow
to her.”
For a long time, there was silence on the other end of the phone.
Maverick looked down at his phone. The call had not ended, and they were still
chatting.
“Hello, are you still there?”
“Hmm,” the man’s voice sounded a little melancholy, “you know my difficulties. Sherry is
新
an unexpected presence in my life. Once I handle that matter, I will take her away from
here.”
Maverick sighed and said, “Alright, you know what’s best for yourself. I won’t say much.
Just think carefully about that matter–what is truly important to you? You only live
once; don’t let yourself regret it.”

‘I see; thank you, man.”
“There’s no need to be polite; stop imitating me every day; it hurts my throat. Hurry up,
or else you’ll have to compensate me if my voice is damaged.”
On the other end of the phone, there was a faint laugh. “I didn’t mean to bother you in
the first place; it’s just that I used your car to pick her up at the car exhibition’s entrance
last time; who knew she and her friend went to the vehicle management office to check
the license plate number? Sorry about that, Maverick.”
“It shows that this girl has a good sense of investigation, and she really cares about
you,” Maverick laughed pleasantly.
“She’s okay, and she’s nice to me.”
“Stop showing off in front of me, okay?” scolded Maverick, “I have some business to
attend to in my company, and it’s about time; you should go up quickly, and remember
to wear your mask.”

Sherry waited for a long time for the elevator before finally heading upstairs.

Room 2307 had remained unchanged since she had left in the morning. She had
rushed out the door, not even folding the blanket, while Mr. Sniper’s clothes remained in
the laundry basket.
After parking the car, Sherry had some time before she needed to leave, so she quickly
began tidying up the room.

The access card unlocked the door to the room.
Mr. Sniper entered the room.
“Mr. Sniper, please have a seat in the living room for a moment; I’ll be finished cleaning
up soon!” Sherry called from her bedroom.
Mr. Sniper’s eyes darkened as he gently touched the white mask on his face.
Sherry
“Yes?”
“Come here.”
Sherry hesitated. “What’s the matter?”
He repeated, “Come here.”
“Oh.”
Sherry hadn’t even changed her clothes, and her hair was still disheveled. “What’s
wrong?” she asked as she walked out of the bedroom.
“Nothing,” Mr. Sniper replied, taking her hand in his. “I missed you.”
