Chapter 16
On the fourth day of work.
Kylie’s expectations were shattered as everything did not go as smoothly as she had hoped. However, the situation did not reach a point where she felt overwhelmed and unable to handle it.
The department heads reported their work the next day, but their reports felt. perfunctory, indicating that they were likely following Cohen’s instructions. It was evident that there was still a strong influence from the previous management.
Fortunately, Kylie had been in contact with Kelton for a long time, continuously gathering information about the company. She held the meeting to gain a deeper understanding of these people for future dealings.
As Kylie was engrossed in the meeting, her expression soured when she received a call from someone she detested.
Despite her reluctance, she answered the call just as the ringtone reached its final note..
The voice on the other end erupted into a tirade. “Kylie, you daughter of a bitch. You did not even answer my
calls!”
Unfazed, Kylie retorted coldly, “Am I answering a bitch’s call now?”
Nadia’s voice grew even sharper, exclaiming, “Kylie, you’ve really lost it! How dare you call me a bitch? Aren’t you afraid of divine retribution?”
innocent
“Are you suggesting that I should keep my distance from you? Otherwise people might get hurt when divine retribution strikes?” Kylie replied calmly.
“You!” Nadia was so angry that she could not find words.
Meanwhile, Cohen, infuriated by the exchange, interrupted, “Enough, Kylie. Your grandmother personally called you. What kind of attitude is this?”
Kylie questioned him calmly, “What attitude do you think I should have?”
Should she put on a smiling face for a woman who had mistreated her since childhood, even mistreated her mother?
Cohen seemed to be too frustrated to argue with Kylie any longer. Tomorrow is Saturday, and it happens to be your grandmother’s 71st birthday. She wants you to come home and celebrate. Don’t be ungrateful.”
Kylie sneered at the request.

Last year, Nadia did not invite Kylic to her 70th birthday celebration, turning her into the subject of ridicule throughout Beliey. Now, she wanted Kylie to come home for her birthday. She must be up to no good.
“Fine,” Kylic agreed nonchalantly, masking her true intentions.
It worked out well for her. She had

Cohen was surprised by Kylie’s sudden compliance but did not say much. He simply hung up the phone.
Kylie put the phone down, accustomed to the Stafford family’s indifference.
She continued to work with indifference.
At 8 in the evening.
Kylie put down the files, stood up, and left the office.
Kiana’s desk had long been empty.
Kiana never stayed a second longer than necessary, no matter how busy Kylie was.
Kylie quietly took Kiana’s seat, opened her computer, and entered the PIN code to
unlock it.
Then, Kylie started to find some useful information on Kiana’s computer.
Half an hour later…
She left with a USB drive.
The next day.
Kylie was awakened by a phone call.
She glanced at the time, chose not to answer, and tried to go back to sleep.
But the calls kept coming in.
Unable to bear it any longer, Kylie pressed the answer button.
“Kylie, where are you? Why haven’t you come back yet?” Nadia roared.
Kylie looked at the time. It was 7 a.m.
“Lost your voice?” Nadia asked angrily.

“Are you urging me to come back for your funeral?” Kylie said coldly.
O
“You dare speak to me like this when your grandmother is still alive?” Cohen shouted.
“Since it’s not that, I’ll be back when I feel like it.”
Kylie did not care about Nadia’s infuriation and hung up.
She stretched, unable to sleep after this exchange.
She got up, and upon seeing a photo of her and her mother, which was the only memento they had together, on her bedside table, Kylie sighed.
How blind must Cohen be to be lured by Mila?
Kylie composed herself, got ready, and left her apartment.
When she reached the Stafford family, it was already 10 in the morning.
There were scattered guests in the mansion, mostly relatives of the Stafford family. These small birthday parties without alcohol were usually for close family.
Seeing Kylie, no one approached her, and their eyes were filled with disdain.
From childhood to adulthood, Kylie had grown used to being scorned by countless. relatives.
Some bullied her for not having a mother, some taunted her for her lack of modesty, and some mocked her for not being as good as Perla…
For Kylie, it had become a matter of indifference.
Without saying a word, Kylie walked into the hall.
Nadia sat in the middle of the sofa, surrounded by relatives trying to flatter her.
Cohen was greeting the guests, with Perla and Mila beside him.
When Kylie arrived, all eyes turned to her.
Nadia, who had not seen her for a year or two, gave Kylie a casual glance, not bothering to take her seriously. With a touch of sarcasm, she said, “It’s my birthday today. You only show up now? If I didn’t know better, I’d think you weren’t really a Stafford.”
“Samuel isn’t here,” Kylie rétorted..
Samuel was Mila and Cohen’s son, two years younger than Kylie. It was because of this son that Mila entered the Stafford family without obstacles.

“Comparing yourself to Samuel? How old is Samuel? He was working late at the company with your father last night. Shouldn’t he get a bit more sleep today?” Nadia said sternly.
Samuel, the obedient worker? Kylie was sure that he spent the night playing games.
Ultimately, the Stafford family was a classic case of favoring sons over daughters.
Perla was smart. Knowing that she could not get the family’s wealth, she set her sights. on Galaxy Group.
“Kylie, you know Samuel loves to sleep. Don’t mind him. Come, sit here.” Perla took the initiative to be friendly, appearing generous.
She was deliberately showcasing her goodwill in front of all her relatives.
