Chapter 24
“Mommy, why is your face red?” After Joseph gestured for a while, he seemed to notice something unusual.
He looked at her with a silly appearance.
Kylie blushed even more when she was seen by Joseph.
She also understood what it meant for children to speak without reservation.
She hurriedly said, “Wait for me. I’ll get you my clothes to wear for now.”
“Okay.” Joseph nodded obediently.
Kylie took one of her white T–shirts, just enough to cover Joseph’s knees, so he did not need to wear pants.
She sat on her soft bed, holding Joseph, and then helped him blow–dry his hair.
During the hair–drying process, Joseph became even sleepier.
He kept nodding off.
When Kylie finished blowing his hair and put the hairdryer down, Joseph lay down on her bed and fell asleep.
When she looked at Joseph’s adorable appearance, Kylie’s heart warmed.
She tucked Joseph in, adjusted his blanket, and bent down to kiss his little forehead.
She then dimmed the lights, picked up her phone, and sent a text. [Jos is asleep. Maybe you can come pick him up tomorrow morning?]
There was no immediate response to the message this time.
Kylie waited for a while, but there was still no reply.
She took a bathrobe and went to the bathroom to wash up.
When she came out, the doorbell suddenly rang.
Kylie quickly walked to the entrance and, through the video, saw Ethan standing outside the door.
Did Ethan not see her message?
She opened the door and said straightforwardly, “Jos is asleep.”
Ethan’s eyes moved slightly, staring at what she was wearing.
Kylie lowered her head, her face suddenly reddening. She realized that she was still in a bathrobe, and she had not even put on underwear.
“Bang!”
The door slammed shut.
Ethan pursed his lips.
Kylie quickly went back to her room, changed into a more conservative home outfit, casually tied up her damp hair, and quickly walked to the door, opening it. “Sorry, come in.”
As she spoke, she handed Ethan a pair of men’s slippers.
Ethan looked at them and asked, “Do you have shoe covers?”
“Seems like it.” Kylie looked for them and found a pair of shoe covers.
Ethan put on the shoe covers and walked in.
“Jos is asleep. Should I wake him up, or do you want to carry him away directly…”
“I’m hungry,” Ethan interrupted her.
Kylie looked at Ethan and glanced at the clock on the wall. It was almost ten o’clock at night.
Chapter 24
“Is there any food?” Ethan asked.
“No,” Kylie answered bluntly.
Ethan just kept looking at her.
Kylie pursed her lips and compromised. “Takeout?”
“No.”
Kylie took a deep breath. “I’ll cook something for you.”
Ethan’s eyes moved. At that moment, he seemed to smile a smile that was clearly strange.
Slowly, he nodded, “Thank you.”
He then calmly sat on the sofa in the living room, obviously waiting.
Kylie frowned and went into the kitchen.
She thought that Ethan’s smile from earlier seemed to carry a deeper meaning.
Fortunately, she knew how to cook a few things.
In no time, she prepared a bowl of lasagna and placed it on the dining table. “Come over and eat.”
Ethan walked over, sat at her dining table, picked up a fork, and started to
eat.
He didn’t comment on whether it was delicious or not.
He quietly ate the entire bowl of noodles, even finishing the
soup.
“Are you full?” Kylie began to doubt if she had underestimated his appetite.
But she had already prepared portions for two of her servings.
“Yes.”
“I’ll go wake up Jos…”
“You just said let Jos sleep here,” Ethan interrupted her.
She thought he had not seen the message and asked, “Then why did you come?”
“To eat.”
Kylie was speechless.
“Where’s the bathroom?” Ethan asked.
“In the room.”
Because she lived alone, Kylie did not keep a public bathroom. She connected the room and the living room, creating a transparent study.
Ethan walked into the room, glanced at Joseph sleeping on the bed, and then went into the bathroom.
As Kylie turned to leave, she suddenly thought of something. At the moment when Ethan closed the door, she rushed into the bathroom.
Ethan raised an eyebrow, “Miss Stafford, you are…”
Kylie’s face turned red.
She had just finished showering, and her clothes, including underwear, were still in the bathroom.
She grabbed her clothes in a panic and urgently put them behind her.
Ethan glanced at her, clearly amused.
After taking the clothes, Kylie turned and left.
“Miss Stafford,” Ethan called her from behind.
Kylie turned around.
As soon as she turned, her face turned crimson.
Ethan was holding her bra. In his fingers, the bra was lifted and wiggled…
Did he pick it up because it accidentally fell on the floor?
Didn’t he know that some things should not be picked up?
Did he not know about respecting personal boundaries?
Kylie snatched it back, blushing deeply, and escaped.
Even her ears turned red.
Ethan walked out of the bathroom.
Kylie, sitting on the sofa in the living room, had finally calmed down.
They were adults, and it was not that embarrassing.
She stood up to send Ethan off, but she saw him holding a hairdryer coming out.
Kylie was puzzled.
Ethan found a socket close to Kylie, plugged in the hairdryer, and said, “Let me blow–dry your hair.”
Kylie was confused.
“Thank you for taking care of Jos and for the dinner you made.”
“The formal dress was way over the top.”
“I got a refund from the dress shop.” Ethan said, “I don’t like you wearing someone else’s dress, but… A qualified businessman will not reject the maximum surplus value.”
Kylie really admired how Ethan could take advantage of situations, maintaining a righteous appearance.
Ethan did not say much more. He unraveled Kylie’s tied–up hair and started blow–drying it for her.
The distance between them became very close.
Suddenly, the room became very quiet. Now there was only the sound of
the hairdryer, and perhaps the sound of their heartbeats.
Ethan should indeed be a master in love.
But then again, why couldn’t he keep Joseph’s mother?
Silence reigned between them.
“It’s dry,” Ethan said, turning off the hairdryer.
“Thank you.”
“I’ll come to pick up Jos at eight tomorrow morning.”
“Okay.”
Kylie walked Ethan to the door.
“I will throw away this pair of slippers for you.” Ethan bent down and picked up the men’s slippers on the floor.
Kylie pursed her lips.
This pair of slippers was originally bought for Sergio.
But Sergio had only been there a few times and only wore them once or twice.
After all, it was her money spent, and she wasn’t that extravagant..
“Mr. Hayden.” Kylie suddenly stopped him.
“Yes?”
“Are you from the famous Hayden family in Beliey?” Kylie looked at him.
